Schools celebrate achievement of national eco-standard
In June 2008, 3 Rotherham schools gained the European Eco-Management and Audit System (EMAS) accreditation used by businesses and organisations across the Europe. At each school, pupils formed an Eco-Committee to help identify where they could improve the school's environmental performance. Topics considered included energy use, water use and waste. Using Rotherham Council's Green Check system, a plan of action was developed and projects are underway. Each school later received their EMAS certificate from Rotherham's Mayor in a special ceremony at the Town Hall.
