Local People Give New Website The Thumbs Up!

August 2008

South Yorkshire is ahead of the game in the air quality field, helping local residents stay up-to-date on our air quality. Members of the public now have access to Care4Air’s transformed website at the click of a mouse. The site includes information on air quality history and facts; find tips on how to improve air quality; and view the latest air quality news.

With glossy clean-cut visuals and easy navigational menus, the South Yorkshire air quality campaign’s website, www.care4air.org, is user friendly and up-to-date, and information is presented in an interactive format, including videos, podcasts and animation.

Information on the site includes tips on ‘eco-driving’, air quality and health related facts, information on who to speak to about air quality in your area, an online Care4Air TV programme, useful links to other air quality related websites and an interesting picture gallery showing air quality ‘then and now’.

The new site has already gone down well with local people. Members of the Handsworth Community Forum in Sheffield, work hard to improve air quality in Handsworth. One member, Robert Strafford, has already found the site useful, he said: “The site is great because the information is clear and air quality is described in plain English. Overall it’s extremely user-friendly.”

David Luck, from Sheffield, is a community coordinator and works with the Handsworth Community Forum on a wide-range of community issues. He comments: “Air quality is extremely important and the new Care4Air website offers a professional layout, an easy navigation menu and uses a simple language style.”

For three consecutive years, the previous site was voted ‘Best Local Authority Consortium Website’ by the respected industry publication ‘Air Quality Management Magazine’. Coordinators have now built on the site’s success to ensure that it remains at the top of its game.

Speaking about the new website, Mark Daly, Spokesperson for Care4Air, said: “I am delighted with the new look, it’s modern, fresh and really user friendly. The new site is an extremely useful tool for members of the public as well as professionals in the air quality field.

“Air quality is a highly topical issue and we felt that the website needed to be updated to encourage more people to consider the seriousness of air quality and let us help them to do their bit!”

Later on in the year, the website will take another turn, making it one of the most dynamic in the country as the sub-site ‘Learn to Care4Air’ will be launched. This brand new sub-site will be aimed at young people in secondary schools across the country and will hopefully gain approval from the national curriculum 21st Century Science.
