DRIVE DOWN YOUR MOTORING COSTS WITH HELP FROM THE ENERGY SAVING TRUST
May 2010
Transport emissions contribute over 20% of the UKs overall carbon emissions. Yet there are lots of things we can all do to reduce this figure and meet ambitious CO2 reduction targets.
Reassessing your travel needs could save you money on fuel costs and significantly reduce your carbon footprint. The Energy Saving Trust is here to help with free and impartial advice on a range of sustainable transport options and tips on smarter driving for when the car is the only alternative.
We can also help people put these principles into practice under the guidance of a trained eco-driving instructor with the Energy Saving Trusts Smarter Driving lessons. Driving instructor, Mike says:
“The rule of thumb is high gears and low revs. You should be in the highest gear possible for the speed you are doing. Keep the vehicle moving and approach delays in the road more slowly so you can anticipate the traffic flowing again.
The areas we use the most fuel is moving off, changing gear and accelerating so it is far better to remove the need to stop by anticipating earlier and if possible remaining in second. Lots of drivers roar towards a red light, which means lost fuel not only when you rush to a halt, but also when you start off again.”
In fact, smarter drivers spend less money on fuel and can save around £250 a year by following a few simple guidelines. To find out more about these tips and lessons and to be entered into a free prize draw to win a Sat Nav, call our free phone number on 0800 512 012 or email [email protected].
