CAMPAIGN TO HELP PEOPLE SAVE MONEY BY CAR POOLING ON NATIONAL LIFT SHARE DAY
June 2009
A new campaign to encourage people across South Yorkshire to car share is being launched this week to coincide with National Lift Share Day. The campaign from Rotherham Council is supported by Care4Air - a partnership between the four South Yorkshire local authorities that aims to raise awareness of air quality issues in the region.
This year, National Lift Share Day (NLSD) takes place on Tuesday 9th June. The popular event aims to raise the profile of car-sharing and enable more people give it a try. As well as helping reduce the huge amounts of pollution generated by car journeys, lift-sharing is also a great way to save money. In view of the credit crunch, more and more people are looking into the many hundreds of pounds that regular car-sharers can save every year.
As part of the new campaign, local people are being encouraged to visit CarShareSouthYorkshire.com - a free website that allows you to find someone who drives a similar route to you to car share with. The campaign and website is being promoted via a radio advert, which will run from the 9th June to the 14th of July on Rother FM. It features two men who have begun sharing to save money.
Mark Daly, Care4Air co-ordinator, said: “Many people find it frustrating that their only means of getting to work is expensive and bad for the environment. Sharing lifts with other drivers allows you make serious savings, helps you reduce your carbon footprint and removes the boredom of the daily commute!”
